How are Swiss Companies Using India's GCCs.

India's Global Capability Centre ecosystem has evolved into a global engine for innovation, enabling multinational companies to drive engineering, digital transformation and product development at scale. ABB is one of several Swiss companies leveraging India's deep technology and engineering talent to support critical global operations.

For a company whose operations span more than 100 countries, its network is no longer just IT infrastructure. It is the digital nervous system connecting factories, engineering centres, customers and suppliers across Europe, Asia and the Americas.

The bigger story is why ABB continues to place that responsibility with an Indian technology partner.

India has become much more than a manufacturing market for ABB. It is one of the company's largest engineering and innovation hubs, supporting product development, R&D and manufacturing for both local and global operations. As these capabilities expand, so does the need for secure, AI-enabled digital infrastructure that can connect teams and facilities across Asia and beyond.

The transformation of India's technology ecosystem has made that possible.

Over the past decade, the country has become home to one of the world's largest Global Capability Centre (GCC) ecosystems, where multinational companies run engineering, software development and AI operations. Alongside this, firms such as Tata Consultancy Services have evolved from IT service providers into strategic technology partners capable of managing mission-critical digital infrastructure to global standards.

For ABB, the decision is therefore about leveraging a mature ecosystem where engineering talent, digital capabilities and a trusted partner have grown together over two decades.

A broader trend among Swiss manufacturers

Swiss companies have increasingly turned to Indian technology partners to modernise enterprise systems, migrate to the cloud, build AI capabilities and strengthen cybersecurity. Nestlé has worked extensively with TCS on digital transformation and enterprise services. Roche has partnered with Infosys and other Indian technology firms to accelerate digital engineering and life sciences innovation. Schindler Group has expanded its digital engineering capabilities through collaborations with Indian technology talent, while many industrial companies now operate their own Global Capability Centres across Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune.

Swiss companies continue to lead in engineering, industrial automation and advanced manufacturing. India has become a global leader in scaling digital platforms, AI operations and enterprise technology. Rather than competing, the two ecosystems are becoming increasingly complementary.
